Qualcomm To Launch New Snapdragon Processor With Adreno 400 GPU Next Year

Qualcomm’s current high end mobile Snapdragon processor is the Snapdragon 800, the processor is used in a wide range of devices, like the Google Nexus 5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and more.

The Snapdragon 800 processor features an Adreno 330 GPU, although it looks like Qualcomm has plans to replace this in early 2014 with a new Adreno 400 GPU.

Nokia And Samsung Extend Patent Deal

Nokia and Samsung have had a deal in place on patents for some time, the deal was due to run out at the end of this year, although the two companies have now extended their agreement.

Nokia has announced that they have come to an agreement with Samsung for the licensing deal to be extended for another five years, although there are no details as yet on how much the deal is worth.

Nokia Now 4th In US Smartphone Market

We recently heard that Nokia managed to sell a total of 8.8 million Lumia handsets in their last financial quarter, and now according to a recent report, the company is now number 4 in the US smartphone market.

The news comes from a report from Counterpoint Research, who have placed Nokia in fourth place for the third quarter of 2013 with a 4.1 percent share of the US smartphone market.

The Nexus 5 Difference

Did anyone else know there were two different Nexus 5 models available for purchase? There’s a North America model, D820, and a D821 model that’s pretty much meant for the rest of the world.

The D821 model may be a number higher, but the two phones are pretty much the same. The difference lies in the mobile network bands each model is compatible for. Essentially, the North America model can make use of the network bands used by the major companies in North America, and the D821 is optimized for Europe and the rest of the world.

Jelly Bean now on 50+% of Androids

I know the big news right now is the Nexus 5 and KitKat launch, which is Android 4.4, but it’s going to be a while still before most of us have KitKat in our hands. Jelly Bean, Android 4.1 – 4.3, just made it onto 52.1% of all active Android devices, which is quite a jump from last month’s 48.6% integration.

Gingerbread, Android 2.3, is on 26.3% of devices, and Ice Cream Sandwhich, Android 4.0.3 – 4.0.4, makes up 19.8%. The rest is spread out amongst Android 2.2 and lower, all of which are dying by the wayside.
