A new TV Guide application has arrived in the iTunes app store called Peel, and when used with a bright yellow IR dongle called Peel Fruit, they combine to create a unique universal remote system.
The Peel Fruit links to your router via a ZigBee connection to an ethernet dongle to allow you to then control your AV systems. The unique Peel Fruit device has been created and designed by the creator of the Jawbone Bluetooth headset, Yves Behar.
How Peel Works
Once everything is set up, the Peel iPhone application will start to learn what shows you enjoy watching and then begin to recommend similar alternatives, similar to Apple’s Genius system. The Peel Fruit can run for nine months on a single battery, making it a low-maintenance addition to your home entertainment setup.
The Peel system is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. After connecting the Peel Fruit to your router via the ZigBee connection, you can control your TV, set-top boxes, and other AV equipment directly from your iPhone. The app’s interface is sleek and easy to navigate, allowing you to browse through TV listings, set reminders for your favorite shows, and even discover new content based on your viewing habits.
Features and Benefits
One of the standout features of the Peel system is its ability to learn and adapt to your preferences. Over time, the app becomes more accurate in its recommendations, helping you find shows and movies that you might not have discovered otherwise. This personalized approach sets Peel apart from traditional TV guides and universal remotes.
Another significant advantage of the Peel system is its compatibility with a wide range of devices. Whether you have the latest smart TV or an older model, Peel can integrate seamlessly with your existing setup. This versatility makes it an attractive option for households with diverse AV equipment.
Additionally, the Peel Fruit’s long battery life means you won’t have to worry about frequent replacements. With up to nine months of usage on a single battery, you can enjoy uninterrupted control over your home entertainment system.
Currently, the system only works in the US at the moment, but if you fancy giving it a go or even using the application just to suggest a few TV shows as a guide, you can download it for free from the iTunes Store. The developers are continually working on expanding its availability to other regions, so international users should keep an eye out for future updates.
The Peel TV Guide application and Peel Fruit dongle offer a unique and innovative solution for managing your home entertainment system. With its personalized recommendations, broad compatibility, and user-friendly interface, Peel is poised to become a favorite among TV enthusiasts. Whether you’re looking to streamline your viewing experience or discover new content, Peel provides a comprehensive and convenient solution.
