iPhone 8

We have been hearing lots of rumors about Apple’s new iPhone 8. One of the rumors about the handset is that it will come with facial recognition.

A number of iPhone 8 features were recently discovered in the firmware for the new Apple HomePod speaker. Now some details about facial recognition on the handset have been revealed.

One of the features that was confirmed by the HomePod firmware was the existence of facial recognition on the new iPhone 8. More information on what will be supported by facial recognition has been revealed. Apple Pay will apparently use facial facial recognition as a means of authentication when making a payment.

Developer @r_idn has discovered references to Apple Pay and the new facial recognition features for the new iPhone. Facial recognition will apparently be used an a way of authenticating Touch ID payments on Apple Pay instead of using your fingerprint.

What we do not know as yet about Apple’s new iPhone is whether it will still have a finger print scanner. Some rumors have suggested that the under the display fingerprint scanner will not be ready for this years iPhone.

Apple’s new iPhone 8 is rumored to come with a 5.8 inch OLED display. We do not know the resolution as yet, although we suspect it could be a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The new iPhone will be powered by an Apple A11 processor, this will give around a 30% performance gain over the current iPhone.

The new iPhone will also get some updated cameras. We are expecting a higher resolution FaceTime HD camera on the front. On the back of the handset there will be a new dual camera like the iPhone 7 Plus. The cameras on the new iPhone will have a vertical setup instead of a horizontal one. The handset will feature the new iOS 11 OS that was made official at WWDC 2017 back in June.

Apple are expected launch their new iPhone 8 some time in September. We will also see two other handsets, the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus. These handsets will have a new design and will come with LCD displays.
