Expanding the usefulness of the recently launched NanoPi M4, a powerful Raspberry Pi alternative. FriendlyARM has released any new 4 x SATA HAT for the NanoPi M4 mini PC priced at just $25 allowing you to use the mini PC system as a NAS if desired.
To recap the $65 NanoPi M4 mini PC is equipped with a hexa-core Rockchip RK3399 SoC and 2 GB or 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. For more information jump over to our previous article located here. FriendlyElec has based the SATA HAT on a Marvell 88SE9215 chip and has integrated four SATA ports that can run at up to 6 GBit/s. The Marvell 88SE9215 chip is cooled thanks to a custom heatsink that attaches via two mounting holes.
Other features of the expansion board include 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a fan connector for active cooling, a 12 V power in and two GPIO connectors on the rear. The HAT can power up to four 3.5-inch HDDs via a 4-pin SATA power out and incorporates individual status LEDs for each SATA connection, together with aa power key and a jumper if required.
The NanoPi M4 SATA HAT supports a number of operating systems including the FriendlyCore 18.04 (64-bit), FriendlyDesktop 18.04 (64-Bit) and Lubuntu 16.04 (64-bit).
