Apple have just announced a special event on March 17th, which will show off the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.0.
As well as showing off the new iPhone OS 3.0, Apple will be previewing a brand new version of the iPhone SDK. The live event will take place at 10am PST (1pm EST).
Apple are calling the event an ‘advance preview of what we are building’, so I doubt we will get to see the new iPhone OS 3.0 on our iPhones this month.
What to Expect from iPhone OS 3.0
It will be interesting to see what the new iPhone OS 3.0 looks like, as well as the updated SDK. The iPhone OS 3.0 is expected to bring a host of new features and improvements. Some of the rumored features include copy and paste functionality, which has been a long-requested feature by iPhone users. Additionally, there might be enhancements in the messaging app, possibly including MMS support, which would allow users to send multimedia messages.
Another anticipated feature is the ability to use the iPhone as a modem, also known as tethering. This would enable users to share their iPhone’s internet connection with other devices, such as laptops. Improved push notifications are also on the wishlist, which would allow apps to receive updates and alerts even when they are not actively running.
Speculations on New Hardware
I wonder if Apple have a new iPhone planned to launch with the new iPhone OS 3.0? Maybe the much-rumored iPhone Nano? After all, we did see the launch of the iPhone 3G with the updated iPhone 2.0 software. The iPhone Nano has been a topic of speculation for some time, with rumors suggesting a smaller, more affordable version of the iPhone that could appeal to a broader audience.
There are also whispers about potential hardware upgrades for the existing iPhone models. These could include a higher resolution camera, improved battery life, and possibly even a faster processor. Such upgrades would make the new iPhone OS 3.0 even more appealing, as the enhanced hardware would be able to take full advantage of the new software features.
The event on March 17th will likely provide more clarity on these speculations. Apple has a history of surprising its audience with innovative features and products, so it will be exciting to see what they have in store this time.
I guess we will have to wait and see!
