Last week we heard that Apple had purchased Beats Audio in a deal worth $3.2 billion, the deal has yet to be confirmed by Apple, although it was confirmed by Dr Dre on a video that was posted online, that has since been removed.
We also heard last week that Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine was expected to join Apple as an adviser, although according to a recent report, both of the co-founders of Beats, which includes Dr Dre, will take on a senior role at Apple when the acquisition is completed.
According to the WSJ, Iovine will leave his current role of Interscope Geffan A&M records, which is part of Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, to join Apple.
While Mr. Iovine’s rock-star temperament could still ruffle some feathers in tech-centric Cupertino, it may help Apple broker deals in the music industry and appeal to the younger consumers who gravitate to Beats headphones.
Exactly what role Iovine will have at Apple remains to be seen, and it is not clear as yet on what role Dr Dre will have at Apple, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.
