Owners of the Kickstarter funded Pebble smartwatch, that also have access to a 3D printer can now create their very own 3D printed Pebble smartwatch charger thanks to Instructables user “zjenja’.
The pocket sized charger designed by Zjenja can be 3D printed in less than 30 minutes and includes the USB socket and a clip mechanism, rather than magnets, to hold your Pebble smartwatch in place as it charges.
To see how to construct the Pebble smartwatch charger veiw the video below or jump over to the Instructables website for full instructions, a list of everything that you will need, together with the 3D print diagram you can upload to your 3D printer.
“I have seen great applications of 3D printing throughout the last years, often using expensive high-end 3D printers. Therefore, I have been wondering how I can use a low-cost desktop 3D printer instead to make a new, functional product that will be useful for a large group of people, something they would use on a daily basis. Zjenja explains :
Things started to move when I lost the charger cable for my Pebble Smartwatch and I decided to challenge myself. I wanted to come up with a solution that is 3D printable and works better than the original. It had to be small, cheap, and easy to make, preferably without soldering. Above all, it should not compromise the usability of the Pebble.”
The tiny Pebble watch charger makes for a perfect second charging unit to keep in your pocket just in case you get caught short and your battery begins to die on you whilst away from the original Pebble dock that is supplied with the smartwatch when purchased.
