It won’t be long before we get the official details about Apple’s new iPhone 8. Apple are holding a press event for the iPhone 8 on the 12th of September 2017.
There have been lots of rumors about Apple’s new iPhone 8, the handset will get a major new design and a range of new features. Here are 10 things we know about Apple’s new flagship iPhone so far.
1. The handset will get a new design
Apple’s new iPhone 8 will come with a completely new design to the existing iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The handset will come with new materials over the current models. the new iPhone will have an edge to edge display with an ultra thin bezel.
2. The new iPhone will have an OLED display
Apple’s new iPhone will be their first smartphone to come with an OLED display. Apple’s current handsets come with an LCD display. The display on the new iPhone will be an edge to edge display that will have almost no bezel, this can be seen in the concept picture above. The display on the device is said to measure 5.8 inches.
3. Wireless charging is coming to the iPhone
Apple’s iPhone 8 will come with a wide range of new hardware, one of the new features for the handset is wireless charging. Wireless charging is nothing new, many of the handsets on the market have it, although this will be Apple’s first smartphone to feature the technology.
4. The iPhone 8 is getting a new processor
Whenever Apple’s releases a major new iPhone the handset usually comes with a new mobile processor. This years is no exception and Apple will introduce the new A11 processor with the new handset. We are expecting the new Apple A11 mobile processor to provide around a 30% improvement in performance over the current Apple A10 processor.
5. Apple are ditching the fingerprint sensor for facial recognition
Apple have used fingerprint sensors in their iPhones for the last few years, this years iPhone will apparently ditch the sensor. Instead of a fingerprint sensor, the new iPhone will use facial recognition, this feature will be used for both Apple Pay and unlocking the handset.
6. Apple’s new iOS 11 software launches with the iPhone 8
The new iOS 11 software was first introduced by Apple at their Worldwide Developer Conference back in June. This new software will be released with the new iPhone 8, it is also coming to a number of existing iPhones and iPads.
Apple’s iOS 11 comes with a new design and also a range of new features, some of these include a customizable control center, a range of updates to Siri with some new voices and more.
7. The iPhone 8 will get new cameras
Apple will introduce some new cameras with this years iPhone. On the back of the handset there will be a dual camera setup. The dual cameras will have a vertical placement rather than a horizontal placement like the iPhone 7 Plus. What exactly this will mean for photos on the handset remains to be seen.
The front camera on the handset will be able capable of facial recognition it is also expected to feature 3D sensing.
8. Apple will use different materials for this years iPhone
As well as the new design, the new iPhone will come with new materials over the current models. The handset is rumored to come with a stainless steel chassis and a glass back. It will not be a clear glass back, instead the back will feature different colors, we are expecting around four or five colors for the new device.
9. Storage will range from 64GB to 256GB
The current iPhone start with 32GB of storage, this is expected to change with the launch of the new iPhone. We are expecting three different storage options, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. There had been rumors about a possible 512GB model, but it looks like 256GB may be the largest.
10. The iPhone 8 will be Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date
Apple’s new iPhone 8 is expected to e the company’s most expensive iPhone to date. The top 256GB iPhone 8 costs $969 at the moment. The top iPhone 8 is expected to cost more than $1,000.
Apple will introduce three new iPhones at their press event, as well as the new iPhone 8 we will also see a new iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. We will have more details about all of these new iPhones at Apple’s event on September 12th.
