A new video game in the Skylanders franchise is set to hit just about every major game console out there in October. The game is called Skylanders Trap Team and it will launch officially on October 5 in North America. The game is much like other Skylanders entries in that players will be able to set action figures on a portal and bring them into the game in digital form.

The big change with Trap Team compared to past Skylanders titles is that the player will be able to capture digital characters and bring them into the real world. Using Traps, the gamer will be able to fight and defeat villains in the game and then capture them with a trap on the portal. Once captured the villains in the traps can be heard and used in the game as playable characters.
The traps also allow the villain captured inside to be taken with the gamer to use at a friend’s home. A starter kit for the game is up for pre-order now for about $75.
“When we created Skylanders, we invented a new category of play and, in the process, disrupted two industries – videogames and toys. With each new Skylanders game, our commitment to continuous, disruptive innovation has led to surprising and delightful new ways for kids to play with toys and games,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “With Skylanders Trap Team, we’re no longer just letting kids bring their toys to life inside the game anymore. This time, we’re letting them pull their toys out of the game as well. We are confident this installment of Skylanders will once again redefine what’s possible at the intersection of the physical and virtual worlds.”
