The fingerprint sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S8 is on the back of the handset, that may be about to change with the new Samsung Galaxy S9.
A new patent application for a front facing fingerprint scanner has been filed by Samsung in South Korea, the design of the scanner is different to current ones on the market.
This can be seen in the picture below where the scanner is located in a notch at the bottom of the display, previously Samsung located their scanner in their home button on the front, this change with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
We have heard a number of rumors about the new Galaxy S9 smartphone, the handset is expected to be one of the first devices to launch with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. Samsung may even have an exclusive on the processor at launch. We are also expecting to see another version of the handset with a new Exynos processor from Samsung.
We heard previously that Samsung will be launching a Galaxy 9 and a Galaxy S9 Plus, the handsets are said to come with similar displays to the existing S8 handsets. The handset will get a number of other upgrades over the current models, this is expected to include more RAM and new cameras.
As soon as we get some details on the new Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphones, we will let you guys know. the handsets are expected to launch next year.
