PogoPlug has now dropped the hardware it used to allow you to share hard drives and its creators Cloud Engines has today started offering a software only version which allows you to transform any PC or Mac into a cloud sharing device. Enabling access to your files through the Internet or around your house on your own personal cloud.
Once you have downloaded and installed the new free PogoPlug software your computer then becomes the cloud server and your HDD the cloud storage space, it even allows you to choose selected folders to setup as a separate devices on your network, all then linked to your one account.
But dont forget to leave your PC on if you want people to be able to access your files. Watch the brief video after the jump from PogoPlug for a quick explanation of the new service.
The free software option allows you to stream files within your home but a quick upgrade for $29 will then allow you to share your files via the Internet. Both versions include a jukebox service for streaming of your music collection, a cinema app for your movie files and a gallery feature to share your photographs.
“Our software-only product is a very natural expansion of the Pogoplug streaming service that started with our hardware,” said Daniel Putterman, CEO of Cloud Engines Inc.
If you fancy giving the new PogoPlug software a whirl you can now download it for free from the PogoPlug website.
