At the end of last month, UK mobile carrier Orange announced their first Intel-powered smartphone, the Orange San Diego, and the handset is now available here in the UK.
Orange is offering the San Diego on their monthly contracts as well as their pre-paid offerings. The pre-paid version of their handset will set you back £199.99.
The Orange San Diego is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor, plus a 4-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and features an 8-megapixel camera.
Performance and Features
The 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor in the Orange San Diego is designed to deliver robust performance, making it suitable for a variety of tasks from web browsing to multimedia consumption. The 4-inch display, with its resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, offers a decent viewing experience for its size, making it ideal for watching videos, playing games, and browsing the internet.
The 8-megapixel camera is another highlight of the device, capable of capturing high-quality photos and videos. It includes features such as burst mode, which allows users to take multiple shots in quick succession, and advanced image stabilization to reduce blurriness in photos and videos. This makes the San Diego a good choice for photography enthusiasts looking for a budget-friendly option.
Software and User Experience
The handset comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which, while not the latest version of Android, still offers a solid user experience with access to a wide range of apps and services through the Google Play Store. Users can enjoy popular apps like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp, as well as a variety of games and productivity tools.
One of the key selling points of the Orange San Diego is that it is the first Intel-powered Android smartphone to launch with the carrier here in the UK. This partnership between Orange and Intel marks a significant step in the evolution of mobile technology, as it brings the power and efficiency of Intel processors to the Android ecosystem.
In addition to its hardware and software features, the Orange San Diego also includes several pre-installed apps and services from Orange, such as Orange Wednesdays, which offers 2-for-1 cinema tickets, and Orange Backup, which allows users to securely store and manage their data.
Overall, the Orange San Diego offers a compelling package for those looking for a budget-friendly smartphone with solid performance and a good set of features. Its Intel processor, high-resolution display, and quality camera make it a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market.
