It has been reported this week that Amazon will soon be rolling out a new update to its older, first-generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, providing the hardware with an update to the latest Fire OS 5 operating system and enabling support for Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant.
Although the older hardware will be receiving Alexa, the first generation hardware will not be able to carry out all the functions that are possible using the newer Amazon Echo speaker. But the update will be able to provide you with notifications on weather, sports scores, traffic updates and more.
Amazon is expected to roll out the new update very soon, and will bring with it a number of additional new features such as the ability for owners to use Bluetooth headphones if desired. As well as making improvements to the ‘add-up subscription’ service.
The update carries version number 5.0.5 (537174420) and its still unclear whether the update will roll out to 2nd-gen Fire TVs, but as always we will keep you updated.
