AltDynamic created the world’s first fully CNC machined Möbius Strip which is this week launched via Kickstarter already blasted past its required pledge goal thanks to over 670 backers. Watch the video below to learn more about the history behind the Möbius Strip and the creation of the latest CNC machined single sided, continuous surface ring.
Pledges are available from $33 or roughly £26 for the aluminium version of the Möbius Strip, with worldwide shipping expected to take place during 2019. Due to its unusual topology, Möbius strips are very hard to fabricate from nearly any method and are typically made by twisting.
“Over the last year, we have been privileged to share our love of fascinating mathematical shapes with thousands of backers around the world. After many months of prototyping and planning, our newest shape is now here! The Möbius strip is known by many names, such as Moebius, Möbius band, infinity ring, Möbius loop, infinity ribbon and many more. Regardless of which name you may know it, the Möbius strip is one of the most famous surfaces in modern mathematics.”
The CNC machined Möbius has been constructed using 6061 aluminium and modern machining techniques. The full ghost of planned worldwide shipping is expected to take place during August 2019.
