It looks like Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is gaining ground in Europe according to a recent report by Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft has increased its share of the smartphone market in the UK from 2.2 percent to 5.9 percent in the last quarter of 2012.
Microsoft has also seen good sales of Windows Phone device in other European countries, with a 13.9 percent share of the smartphone market in Italy, this is up from 2.8 percent.
“It has been far slower than Microsoft would have liked, but Windows Phone is now starting to gain respectable shares in a number of key European countries. However, its performance in the Chinese and US markets remains underwhelming. As the two largest smartphone markets in the world, these remain key challenges for Microsoft to overcome during 2013.”
Spain has also seen modest gains for Windows Phone with a 1.8 share of the smartphone market, this has increased from 0.4 percent for the previous period.
