Ulf Hoffmann’s has developed a ping pong robot that would probably give most of us a good run for our money, whilst it may not be able to take on professional ping pong players, it seems to do a good job, considering it was made in his garage.
The robot is called the UHTTR-1 and it was made in his garage and is contructed from lightweight aluminum, have a look at the video below.
Our UHTTR-1 plays the ball back independently and also discourages not before several balls and fast rallies back. Due to the really good servo motors (Thanks Markus for the tip) and the lightweight aluminum construction is only made possible the rapid response capability of the UHTTR-1. In the video you can inspect the weekend testing. The UHTTR-1 plays currently still in passive mode, but Michael has already been tuned to make it more capable of learning and also has a few good ideas to implement the whole. My son has put text and a bit of music on the film, it is not so boring.
