People that find themselves outside a lot needing to work on anything with an LCD screen know that reading that screen in direct sunlight is all but impossible. At the same time, reading an e-ink screen in direct sunlight is very comfortable and easy.
Pixel Qi unveiled its cool screen tech that has a backlight that can be turned off outside making the screen like an e-ink display and turned on indoors making it look like a normal LCD. A netbook called the SunBook from Clover Systems is shipping and is the first netbook to use the Pixel Qi screen.
The machine has a 10.1-inch screen and other than the fancy screen tech, it’s your average, mundane netbook. The screen is 10.1-inches and it has an Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 250GB of storage. The machine can also be optioned with 3G or 4G modems and more. The worst thing is that the machine sells for $795 and presumably, that is the starting point.
