As well as unveiling their new Hololens 2 mixed reality headset, Microsoft is also unveiled a new mini PC in the form of the Azure Kinect Developer Kit. Which is now available to purchase priced at $399 and has been specifically created to help developers to build AI algorithms.
The new hardware includes Microsoft’s latest AI sensors like the time-of-flight depth sensor in the HoloLens 2, and a 7-microphone array for computer vision and speech purposes. The mini PC system is also equipped with a 12-megapixel RGB camera and a 1-megapixel depth camera. “Azure Kinect DK is a developer kit and PC peripheral that combines our best artificial intelligence (AI) sensors with SDKs and APIs for building sophisticated computer vision and speech models.”
Enabling developers that were already using the Kinect sensors for research, applications and other projects to now benefit from a smaller sensor opening even more avenues of research and development. “Azure Kinect DK is a developer kit and PC peripheral with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) sensors for sophisticated computer vision and speech models. It combines a best-in-class depth sensor and spatial microphone array with a video camera and orientation sensor—all in one small device with multiple modes, options, and SDKs.”
