Apple watchOS 5 Beta 1 was released at WWDC and then Apple paused the update last week when there was an issue with the software.
The software was originally released to developers although it was causing some issues which was causing the over the air download to not work properly.
Apple has now fixed the problem and has released the watchOS 5 Beta 1 as an over the air update for registered developers.
New Features in watchOS 5
The watchOS 5 update brings a host of new features and improvements to the Apple Watch. One of the most anticipated features is the Walkie-Talkie app, which allows users to communicate with each other in real-time using their Apple Watches. This feature is particularly useful for quick conversations and can be a fun way to stay in touch with friends and family.
Another significant addition is the enhanced fitness tracking capabilities. The update includes new workout types such as Yoga and Hiking, and it also introduces automatic workout detection. This means that the Apple Watch can now automatically recognize when you start a workout and suggest starting the appropriate tracking, ensuring that you never miss recording a session.
Improved Notifications and Siri Integration
watchOS 5 also brings improvements to notifications, making them more interactive and useful. For instance, you can now take actions directly from the notification banner without having to open the app. This makes managing notifications more efficient and less disruptive.
Siri has also received an upgrade in watchOS 5. The new Siri watch face is more proactive and can now display more relevant information throughout the day. Additionally, you no longer need to say “Hey Siri” to activate the assistant; simply raising your wrist and speaking will trigger Siri, making it more convenient to use.
The new beta of watchOS 5 is now available to download, in order to try out the software you will need to be a registered developer. The final version of the software is expected later in the year, it should land some time in September along with the new iPhone X handsets.
Compatibility and Performance Enhancements
One of the key aspects of watchOS 5 is its focus on performance enhancements. Apple has worked on optimizing the software to ensure that it runs smoothly on all compatible devices. This includes faster app launch times and more responsive interactions, making the overall user experience more seamless.
In terms of compatibility, watchOS 5 will be available for Apple Watch Series 1 and later. However, it is important to note that the original Apple Watch, also known as Series 0, will not be receiving this update. This decision allows Apple to focus on delivering the best possible experience on newer hardware.
In conclusion, watchOS 5 is shaping up to be a significant update for Apple Watch users. With new features like the Walkie-Talkie app, enhanced fitness tracking, improved notifications, and better Siri integration, it promises to make the Apple Watch even more useful and versatile. The performance enhancements and compatibility considerations further ensure that users will have a smooth and enjoyable experience.
As always, it is recommended that only registered developers install the beta version of the software, as it may still contain bugs and issues that need to be resolved before the final release. The general public can look forward to the official release of watchOS 5 later this year, likely in September, alongside the new iPhone models.
