Apple’s macOS High Sierra was released to developers at WWDC 2017 earlier this month and now Apple has released the software to its Public Beta Testing program.
In order to try out the first beta of macOS High Sierra, you will need to be a member of Apple’s public beta testing program. If you are not a member and want to try the software out, you can register over at Apple’s website.
Apple’s macOS High Sierra will bring a wide range of new features to Apple’s range of Mac computers, and you can see some of these features in the video below from the guys over at MacRumors.
New Features in macOS High Sierra
macOS High Sierra introduces several significant updates and improvements over its predecessor. One of the most notable changes is the introduction of the Apple File System (APFS), which replaces the older HFS+ system. APFS is optimized for modern storage technologies and offers enhanced performance, security, and reliability. This new file system is designed to make common operations such as copying files and directories much faster.
Another major update is the enhancement of the Photos app. The new version of Photos includes improved editing tools, better organization options, and new ways to manage your photo library. For instance, the updated app now supports external editing tools, allowing users to open and edit photos in third-party apps directly from Photos.
Safari, Apple’s web browser, also sees significant improvements in macOS High Sierra. Safari now includes features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which uses machine learning to identify and block trackers, enhancing user privacy. Additionally, Safari now offers autoplay blocking, preventing videos from automatically playing on websites, which can be a significant annoyance for users.
Graphics and VR Support
macOS High Sierra also brings advancements in graphics technology with the introduction of Metal 2. Metal 2 is Apple’s updated graphics API, which provides developers with near-direct access to the GPU, resulting in improved performance and efficiency for graphics-intensive applications. This update is particularly beneficial for gaming, professional video editing, and other high-performance tasks.
Moreover, macOS High Sierra introduces support for virtual reality (VR) content creation. As yet, there are no details on when macOS High Sierra will be released. All we know is that it is coming this fall, and we are expecting it to land in either September or October.
