As well as releasing the second beta of iOS 13, Apple also released their new macOS Catalina beta 2 to developers.
Like the new beta of iOS 13, the software is only available for developers at the moment. It is expected to be released to their Public beta program sometime next month.
New Features in macOS Catalina Beta 2
The second beta of macOS Catalina brings a range of new features to the Mac. This includes the new Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Podcast apps that will replace iTunes. The separation of these media services into distinct apps is a significant shift from the all-in-one iTunes model, allowing for a more streamlined and focused user experience.
The software also comes with the new Photos, Safari, Mail, Notes, and Reminders apps. Each of these apps has been updated with new functionalities and improvements. For instance, the Photos app now offers a more immersive and dynamic viewing experience, with enhanced organization and editing tools. Safari has been updated with new security features and a redesigned start page that includes Siri suggestions and frequently visited sites.
Screen Time and Other Enhancements
One of the most anticipated features in macOS Catalina is the new Screen Time feature for the Mac. This feature, which was first introduced on iOS, allows users to monitor and manage their device usage. It provides detailed reports on how much time is spent on different apps and websites, and it includes tools to set limits and restrictions. This can be particularly useful for parents who want to manage their children’s screen time or for individuals looking to reduce their own digital consumption.
Another notable addition is the enhanced accessibility features. macOS Catalina introduces Voice Control, a powerful new feature that enables users to control their Mac entirely with their voice. This is a significant advancement for users with mobility impairments, providing them with greater independence and ease of use.
The new macOS also includes updates to the Mail app, which now offers improved organization and management tools, such as the ability to mute threads, block senders, and unsubscribe from mailing lists with a single click. The Notes app has been enhanced with a new gallery view, more powerful search tools, and better collaboration features.
Apple is expected to release the next major version of their macOS software sometime in September or October. As soon as we get some details on the release date, we will let you guys know.
