If in-app purchases take the shine off your iOS game play, you will be pleased to know that Apple has today added a new category called Pay Once and Play to their iOS App Store front page.
As the name suggests app games within the Pay Once and Play category do not have any in-app purchases and once you have paid the advertised price you can play the game for as long as you like without the need to purchase anything else.
Recently both Apple and Google came under fire from the European Commission regards games that were advertised as being ”Free” but in fact included in-app purchase that need to be purchased to access other content. As you might have already seen within the Apple App Store, “Free” has been replaced by “Get” and there is no label at all on free titles that are listed within the Google Play store.
The new Pay Once and Play Category is now featured on the front page of the Apple iOS App Store but it is still unclear whether the new section will be regularly updated and become a permanent fixture within the main categories listed within the Apple App Store.
Let’s hope it’s here to stay and provide an easier way to see those titles that provide a Pay Once and Play option rather than the confusing freemium offerings that are also available.
