The Apple iWatch is expected to launch later in the year, along with the iPhone 6 and Apple iOS 8, one of the main features of the iWatch, iPhone 6 and iOS 8 will be health and fitness tracking.

Now according to a recent report, it would appear that Apple has further plans beyond fitness and health tracking, and the company is considering launching a new fitness platform which would work in a similar way to the App Store.

We know that iOS 8 will come with a new Healthbook app which is apparently designed to monitor health and fitness, we also heard that Apple will launch a new set of heaphones with the iPhone 6 which will be used for health and fitness monitoring.

Nike also recently revealed that they were scaling back their plans for their own fitness tracking devices, and they said that they were working with Apple on future projects, so it could possibly be this new fitness platform.

Reuters recently spoke to a mobile health executive, who apparently had a meeting with Apple, and the plans for this new platform were discussed in this meeting.

One mobile health executive, who asked not to be named, told Reuters he recently sat down with an Apple executive from the iWatch team. He said the company has aspirations beyond wearable devices, and is considering a full health and fitness services platform modeled on its apps store.

It certainly sounds very interesting, and we presume this new platform would work in a similar way to the app store, with a wide range of applications for health and fitness tracking that would be available on compatible devices like the Apple iWatch and the iPhone 6.

Whether this new platform will launch in September along with the iPhone 6 and iWatch remains to be seen, it could be something that Apple decides to launch at a later date.
