Apple will be releasing their iOS 12 software sometime in September, and the Apple HomePod will also get some new software at the same time with HomePod OS 12.
Apple has been testing out its new HomePod OS 12 beta software with some of its retail employees, and the software will bring some new features to the Apple HomePod.
Enhanced Siri Capabilities
Apple is bringing some major changes to Siri on the iPhone in iOS 12, and there will also be some changes to Siri on the HomePod. This will include the ability to set multiple timers with Siri on the device, which is a highly requested feature by users who rely on their HomePod for various tasks in the kitchen and other time-sensitive activities. For example, you could set a timer for baking a cake while simultaneously setting another timer for boiling pasta, all managed seamlessly through Siri.
In addition to multiple timers, Siri on the HomePod will also gain improved contextual understanding, making it easier for users to interact with their smart speaker. This means that Siri will be better at understanding follow-up questions and commands, creating a more natural and intuitive user experience.
Improved Calling Features
Some of the other new features will also include improvements to the way that the device can be used to make calls. Currently, this feature is available but its capabilities are somewhat limited. The update will bring the ability to make and receive calls on the device without having to touch your iPhone. This hands-free calling feature will be particularly useful for users who are busy with tasks around the house or for those who prefer a more seamless integration of their smart home devices.
Moreover, the update will enhance the call quality and introduce new functionalities such as call waiting and call transfer. For instance, if you receive a call on your iPhone while you are near your HomePod, you can easily transfer the call to the HomePod and continue your conversation without any interruptions.
Additional Features and Improvements
Beyond Siri and calling enhancements, HomePod OS 12 will also bring a range of other improvements. One notable feature is the ability to search for songs by lyrics. This means you can simply ask Siri to play a song by reciting a few lines of the lyrics, even if you don’t remember the song’s title. This feature will make it easier for users to discover and enjoy their favorite music.
Another significant update is the introduction of Find My iPhone functionality on the HomePod. Users will be able to ask Siri to locate their iPhone, and the HomePod will trigger a sound on the iPhone to help you find it. This feature adds an extra layer of convenience for users who often misplace their devices.
Additionally, HomePod OS 12 will bring support for Siri Shortcuts, allowing users to create custom voice commands that can trigger multiple actions at once. For example, you could create a shortcut called “Good Morning” that turns on the lights, reads the weather forecast, and starts your favorite morning playlist, all with a single voice command.
The upcoming HomePod OS 12 update promises to bring a host of new features and improvements that will enhance the overall user experience. From enhanced Siri capabilities and improved calling features to additional functionalities like song search by lyrics and Find My iPhone, Apple is making significant strides in making the HomePod a more versatile and user-friendly smart speaker.
