Google recently launched their new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, both handsets come with Android 8.0 Oreo. Google has now revealed that a new Android 8.1 Oreo update is coming soon.
The news of the new Android 8.1 Oreo update was revealed by Google yesterday when they revealed information about their Pixel Visual Core. The Pixel Visual Core is a system-on-chip that is inside their new Pixel 2 handsets.
The Pixel Visual Core is not enabled in the handsets as yet. Google has said that this will be enabled when they release the Android 8.1 Oreo update.
Pixel Visual Core: Enhancing Photography
The Pixel Visual Core is designed to significantly enhance the photography capabilities of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. This custom-designed co-processor is dedicated to image processing and machine learning, which allows for faster and more efficient photo processing. Once enabled, it will allow third-party apps to utilize the Pixel 2’s HDR+ technology, which is known for producing high-quality images with excellent dynamic range and detail.
In the coming weeks, we’ll enable Pixel Visual Core as a developer option in the developer preview of Android Oreo 8.1 (MR1). Later, we’ll enable it for all third-party apps using the Android Camera API, giving them access to the Pixel 2’s HDR+ technology. We can’t wait to see the beautiful HDR+ photography that you already get through your Pixel 2 camera become available in your favorite photography apps.
This means that not only will the native camera app benefit from the advanced HDR+ capabilities, but other popular photography apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and others will also be able to produce stunning photos using the same technology. This is a significant step forward in mobile photography, as it democratizes access to high-quality image processing.
What to Expect from Android 8.1 Oreo
In addition to enabling the Pixel Visual Core, the Android 8.1 Oreo update is expected to bring several other improvements and new features. These may include performance enhancements, bug fixes, and possibly new functionalities that will further improve the user experience on Pixel devices.
For instance, Android 8.1 Oreo is likely to include optimizations for battery life, ensuring that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can last even longer on a single charge. Additionally, users can expect improvements in system stability and security, making their devices more reliable and secure.
Another anticipated feature is the inclusion of new developer tools and APIs, which will allow app developers to create more innovative and efficient applications. This could lead to a richer app ecosystem and better overall performance for users.
