Xiaomi has hired Qualcomm’s head of Chinese operations Wang Xiang who will join the company as their vice president of strategic cooperation.
Qualcomm provides chipsets not just to Xiaomi but several key players in the smartphone market such as Samsung, Huawei and more.
“Wang Xiang is a highly experienced executive with an in-depth understanding of the communications industry,” said Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun in a statement. “He was the one who successfully helped Qualcomm establish a strategic cooperation with Xiaomi, which has only deepened over time. I believe that with Wang Xiang’s excellent leadership skills, over 20 years of experience in the industry, and close ties with players within the mobile ecosystem, he will be able to steer Xiaomi to the next level of success in strategic cooperation and establishing important partner relations.”
Mr. Xiang has been with Qualcomm for the past 13 years and served as the senior vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm Greater China where he handled several operations-related responsibilities for the company.
This is not the only executive the Chinese company hired, a few months back, Xiaomi hired Google’s Hugo Barra as well to handle their expansion plans as well.
