The Xbox team has today announced via the Major Nelson website that Crackle and CinemaNow have now been added to the media line-up available to Xbox Live users. The new video applications from Sony Pictures’ Crackle and Best Buy’s CinemaNow now enable users to enjoy even more streaming content.
If you haven’t had a chance to use either of these services on other systems or set-top boxes yet, Crackle is packed with tons of free TV shows and movies, and they’re all free. CinemaNow is Best Buy’s streaming rental/purchase movie service.
Crackle: Free Streaming Content
Crackle offers a wide variety of entertainment options, including popular TV shows, classic movies, and original programming. The service is particularly known for its rotating selection of content, which means that new shows and movies are added regularly, keeping the library fresh and engaging. Some of the popular TV shows available on Crackle include “Seinfeld,” “The Shield,” and “Rescue Me.” The movie selection ranges from action-packed blockbusters to indie films and cult classics.
One of the standout features of Crackle is that it is entirely free to use. Users can watch content without any subscription fees, although the service is ad-supported. This makes it an excellent option for budget-conscious viewers who still want access to a wide range of entertainment options.
CinemaNow: Rent or Buy Movies
CinemaNow, on the other hand, offers a different kind of service. It allows users to rent or purchase movies and TV shows, providing access to a vast library of content. This service is ideal for those who want to watch the latest releases without waiting for them to become available on subscription-based platforms. CinemaNow offers a mix of new releases, popular titles, and classic films, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.
One of the advantages of CinemaNow is the flexibility it offers. Users can choose to rent a movie for a limited time or purchase it to own and watch anytime. This makes it a convenient option for both casual viewers and movie enthusiasts who want to build their digital library. Additionally, CinemaNow often provides special deals and discounts, making it an attractive option for those looking to save money on their entertainment expenses.
Both services are currently available to US residents, with Crackle soon arriving in Canada, Australia, and the UK. CinemaNow, however, will remain a US exclusive.
Expanding the Xbox 360 Media Line-Up
The addition of Crackle and CinemaNow to the Xbox 360 media line-up further enhances the console’s appeal as a comprehensive entertainment hub. Xbox 360 already has a good variety of streaming content providers, including Hulu Plus, Last.fm, Netflix, Zune Music & Video, and ESPN. These services offer a wide range of content, from TV shows and movies to music and sports, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
In addition to these popular streaming services, Xbox 360 also offers access to various TV providers. In the U.S., users can enjoy AT&T U-verse TV, while Canadian users have access to TELUS. In the UK, BSkyB and LoveFilm are available, and in France, users can access CANAL+. Other providers include Vodafone Portugal, VimpelCom in Russia, and FOXTEL in Australia. This extensive list of content providers highlights the Xbox 360’s versatility and its ability to cater to a global audience.
The inclusion of Crackle and CinemaNow not only expands the range of content available to Xbox Live users but also underscores Microsoft’s commitment to providing a diverse and comprehensive entertainment experience. Whether you’re looking for free streaming content or the latest movie releases, the Xbox 360 has something to offer.
