Activision Blizzard has announced that the latest installment in the World Of Warcraft series, Cataclysm, has sold a massive 4.7 million copies in the first month since it went on sale on the 7th of December 2010.
World Of Warcraft Cataclysm managed to sell a massive 3.3 million copies of the game in the first 24 hours after its release, and it is now the fastest-selling PC game of all time.

“We created thousands of new quests, introduced new lands to explore, and extensively revamped the game world for ‘World of Warcraft: Cataclysm,’ making it our biggest and most ambitious expansion yet,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, in a statement.
Game Features and Enhancements
The Cataclysm expansion brought a plethora of new features and enhancements to the World of Warcraft universe. One of the most significant changes was the complete overhaul of the game’s original continents, Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. These areas were dramatically altered by the cataclysmic events that reshaped the world, providing both new and veteran players with fresh experiences.
In addition to the revamped landscapes, Cataclysm introduced two new playable races: the worgen for the Alliance and the goblins for the Horde. Each race came with its own unique starting zones and storylines, adding depth and variety to the game. The expansion also raised the level cap from 80 to 85, giving players new challenges and goals to strive for.
Another major feature was the introduction of new high-level zones such as Mount Hyjal, Vashj’ir, Deepholm, Uldum, and the Twilight Highlands. These zones offered a range of new quests, dungeons, and raids, ensuring that players had plenty of content to explore and conquer.
Community and Subscriber Growth
Activision Blizzard now has a total of 12 million users for its World Of Warcraft game, which is up over a million subscribers since October 2010. This growth can be attributed to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the Cataclysm expansion. The game’s community has always been a vital part of its success, and the release of Cataclysm only served to strengthen that bond.
The expansion’s success also highlights the enduring popularity of World of Warcraft, which has managed to maintain a large and dedicated player base for over a decade. The game’s developers have consistently provided new content and updates, ensuring that players always have something to look forward to.
Moreover, the social aspect of World of Warcraft cannot be understated. The game has fostered countless friendships and communities, both in-game and in real life. Guilds, in particular, play a crucial role in the game’s ecosystem, providing players with a sense of belonging and camaraderie.
The release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm was a monumental event in the gaming world. With its impressive sales figures and the introduction of numerous new features and enhancements, the expansion solidified World of Warcraft’s status as one of the most successful and beloved PC games of all time. The game’s ability to continually evolve and adapt has ensured its longevity, and its dedicated community of players remains as passionate as ever.
