Apple is facing a number of lawsuits for slowing down older iPhones, the company is also being investigated by a French Watchdog and now the US government is questioning Apple about slowing down the handsets.
Apple apologized recently when it was revealed that the company was slowing down older iPhones that have degraded batteries. The company has said that this was done to stop handsets with degraded batteries shutting down randomly.
Now Senator John Thune who is the Chairman of the Commerce Committee has written to Apple CEO Tim Cook asking him a number of questions about the handsets being slowed down. The questions include how Apple has tracked customer complaints and also whether they have considered refunding people who paid full price for a battery replacement.
Apple is now offering people battery replacements for $29, they previously charged $79 to replace you smartphones battery. It will be interesting to see what Apple’s response is. Whether the company will do anything further for their customers who have been affected by the issue remains to be seen.
With the various lawsuits and also investigations into what has happened with the slowing down of older iPhones, this could end up costing Apple quite a bit.
