When I was a kid, I always thought it was dumb to give my parent gifts I made myself. I can say now that I have kids of my own the only gifts I remember year to year are the ones that they make me at school. If you are the DIY sort, looking for unique and cool gifts for geeks on your Christmas list Lifehacker has run down the top ten gifts for DIY giving.
In the ten spot is a floppy disk made into a flash drive. The catch will be finding a floppy somewhere. In spot nine is a wooden external HDD enclosure that is really cool. My favorite is the wireless salad bowl speakers; it reminds me of the Death Star.
Moving to the seven spot is the Pogoplug web server, six is a rooted Android or iPhone, fifth place is a streaming radio system, number four is an old Nintendo turned into a DVD player. That is actually really cool. Three is a Hackintosh, number two is anything hidden inside an Altoids tin, I suggest gift cards. The top DIY gift is the Keyboard PC and it is very cool.
