Fans of the TV show Firefly and film Serenity will be pleased to know that after four years of development 3D environmental artist Kaveh Tabar has made available his VR re-creation of the Firefly spaceship allowing you to explore the decks, hallways, mess, cargo hold, engine room, infirmary area and crew quarters at your leisure using a virtual reality headset. Check out the demonstration video below for a quick overview of what you can expect from the Serenity VR fan project which started back in 2014.
The Serenity VR experience supports SteamVR headsets including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets And its developer explains that any VR headset that supports SteamVR should work. As well as different areas of the ship Kaveh has also included a number of items which are strewn about the vessel which users can interact with using VR motion controllers. “A re-creation of Serenity from the show Firefly, fully explorable in VR. Hold the trigger on the controller to interact with any highlighted object. Hold and release the trackpad on the controller to teleport”.
