It has been reported by the Korea Herald website this week that Samsung’s new standalone phone smartwatch might be called the Samsung Gear Solo.
The news regarding the name of Samsung’s standalone Samsung Gear Solo watch has been leaked to the Korea Herald by sources apparently close to the development of the new wrist worn device.
The new Samsung Gear Solo which is currently under development is expected to be equipped with a universal subscriber identity module or USIM, and will not link to a smartphone as with Samsung’s other current smartwatches that are on the market, such as the Samsung Gear 2 pictured above.
Once officially launched the Samsung Gear Solo will enable users to make and receive calls directly from their wrist without the need to sync with a smartphone or any kind. The Samsung Gear Solo is expected to be launched by Samsung in Korea first, and is then expected to roll out worldwide at a later date.
Unfortunately no information on pricing, specifications or worldwide availability has been released as yet Samsung or leaked, but as soon as more information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
