We recently heard that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be released in Early 2014, this is because sales of the Samsung Galaxy S4 have failed to meet Samsung’s internal targets.
Now according to a recent report by Counterpoint, sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 fell in August, Samsung was selling 7 million Galaxy S4 handset in June of this year, this has now dropped down to around 5 million for August.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy S4 was in top place in August, the the Apple iPhone 5 in second and third place, although sales were counted separately for the 16GB and 32GB models, total sales of the iPhone 5 were apparently more than the S4.
After hitting its peak in June with more than 7 million units a month, sell-through continues to decline. However, Samsung was the only major vendor which registered monthly growth in the historically slow season of August. The long tail of Galaxy branded Android smartphones such as Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S duos, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Trend and others together were able to offset the dip in Galaxy S4 sales.
Apple released teir iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in September, they sold 9 million handsets in the first weekend, and we can expect to find out how many iPhone’s they sold for the whole of September later this month.
It will be interesting to see what the sales figures for September are like, comparing sales of Apple’s new iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S4, this would explain why Samsung are pushing to release the Galaxy S5 as early as possible.
