Raspberry Pi Tablet

Developer’s, hobbyists and makers that enjoy using the Raspberry Pi mini PC might find this new Kickstarter project for a Raspberry Pi tablet called Raspitab worth more investigation.

The Raspitab has been designed to provide users with a Linux tablet that is both hackable friendly and includes enough internal space for self engineering, together with a Raspberry Pi mini PC at its centre. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about this unique Raspberry Pi Kickstarter project.

Raspitab Raspberry Pi Tablet

The Raspberry Pi tablet project is currently over on the crowd funding website looking to raise £125,000 in pledges to help with the production of the plastic casing and components. Its creator Henrik Warrer explains a little more :

“Most tablets are actually iPads or Android devices that feature a number of ‘services’ that supply you with free app’s with commercials or subscription based content or one fee for download. All of these devices are NOT hackable. You can as developer make software in iOS or Android but you can’t get the BoardSupportPackage as OPEN SOURCE or make new hardware that can be implemented internal the BOX. We feel that there is a need for devices that are OPEN and HACKABLE. Add your own ideas and hardware to make YOUR tablet!

With RaspiTab, any newly added software or hardware are developed and added to the RaspiTab. You no longer have to be locked by the “PLAY” store. You can now let you community or customer, free of charge, download the software. RaspiTabs internal space for new hardware made by you, adds freedom to take RaspiTab to a whole new level. With your own hardware and software you will be able to get RaspiTab anywhere to enjoy your content.

Because RaspiTab uses a Raspberry Pi Compute Module as its ‘brain’ it uses very little power and needs no active cooling. The end result of this is that RaspiTab is cool when in operation and very quiet. This is ideal for use in entrepreneur environments and in this way RaspiTab differs from the well known tablets or iPads that are a closed hardware and only payable software solutions.”

So if you think Raspitab Raspberry Pi tablet is something you would enjoy using, visit the Kickstarter website via the link below to make a pledge and help Raspberry Pi tablet become a reality. For more details on Raspberry Pi displays and HATS jump over to our essential guide.
