If you’re holding on to your Oppo Find 5, there’s a piece of bad news for you. The company has confirmed that Oppo Find 5 will not get the chocolaty Android 4.4 KitKat update.
This is a disappointing news, the Chinese OEM mentioned Qualcomm has not provided them with the binaries for the Snapdragon APQ8064 chipset which are required to run the Android 4.4 KitKat update.
However, since the Color OS 2.0 is based on the Android 4.4 KitKat update, there’s a room fro developers to port the new OS in a form of a custom ROM. We’re not sure if it will work perfectly, but it won’t work as perfectly as the official update.
Here’s a roughly translated message posted on Weibo:
OPPO Find5 why not upgrade 4.4 ColorOS, because there is no official end hardware package, the bottom package from Qualcomm, and Qualcomm did not give apq8064 send 4.4 / 4.3 bottom package, as to why cm there, that are based on 4.2 at the end of the original package transplant aosp 4.4 directly put on 4.4 framework Color2.0 not incompatible, that would be something wrong with @ hi brother -GWX
Don’t worry as if you decide to go for the unofficial route, you could take a look at CynogenMod which is a good alternative as well. But, the bottom line is, don’t expect the magical KitKat notification to pop up on your Oppo Find 5.
