We have already heard some rumored specifications on the new Nikon D800, and now the guys over at Nikon Rumors have managed to get their hands on some photos of the D800.
The Nikon D800 is reported to be smaller and lighter than the existing D700 and will apparently come with a 36MP sensor, plus a slightly larger display than the D700 and also better video quality than the D3S.
Enhanced Features and Specifications
Other details include auto-focus identical to the D3/D700, plus CF and SD card slots, and it will be able to record video in 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24. The inclusion of both CF and SD card slots is particularly noteworthy as it provides photographers with greater flexibility in terms of storage options. This dual-slot feature allows for simultaneous recording to both cards, overflow storage, or even separating RAW and JPEG files between the two cards.
The D800’s 36MP sensor is a significant upgrade from the D700’s 12.1MP sensor, offering three times the resolution. This increase in megapixels will allow photographers to capture incredibly detailed images, making it an excellent choice for landscape, studio, and commercial photography. The higher resolution also means that images can be cropped more aggressively without losing detail, which is a valuable feature for wildlife and sports photographers who may not always be able to get close to their subjects.
Improved Video Capabilities
In terms of video capabilities, the D800 is expected to outperform the D3S significantly. The ability to record in 1080p at various frame rates (30/25/24) and 720p at higher frame rates (60/30/25/24) makes it a versatile tool for videographers. This range of options allows for more creative freedom in post-production, such as slow-motion effects when recording at 60 frames per second. Additionally, the D800 is rumored to have improved audio controls, including a headphone jack for real-time audio monitoring, which is a crucial feature for professional video work.
The D800 is also expected to feature advanced image processing capabilities, thanks to Nikon’s EXPEED 3 image processor. This processor not only enhances image quality but also improves the camera’s overall performance, including faster autofocus, quicker image processing, and better noise reduction at high ISO settings. These improvements make the D800 a well-rounded camera suitable for a wide range of photographic and video applications.
There are no details as yet when the Nikon D800 will be officially announced, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.
