Google has owned Nest for some time but it has been run as a separate company. Google has now announced that going forward, Nest will be part of Google and is now known as Google Nest.
The company revealed this at their Google I/O Conference last week, where they also unveiled the new Nest Hub Max.
Since Nest joined Google’s hardware team last year, we’ve been working to make the smart home a little less complicated, and well, more helpful. A home where products work together to help you feel comfortable and safe, keep an eye on things when you’re away, and connect you to friends and family. Today, we’re committing to that goal by bringing the Home products under the Nest brand. Our first step, as Google Nest, is to go beyond the idea of a “smart home,” and to focus instead on creating a “helpful home.”
Integration of Google Nest
The integration of Nest into Google marks a significant shift in the company’s strategy towards smart home technology. By consolidating their smart home products under the Google Nest brand, Google aims to streamline the user experience and create a more cohesive ecosystem. This move is expected to enhance the interoperability of devices, making it easier for users to manage their smart home setups.
One of the key benefits of this integration is the improved synergy between Google Assistant and Nest products. For instance, users can now control their Nest thermostats, cameras, and other devices more seamlessly using voice commands through Google Assistant. This level of integration not only simplifies the user experience but also adds a layer of convenience and efficiency to managing a smart home.
New Products and Features
The unveiling of the Nest Hub Max at the Google I/O Conference is a testament to Google’s commitment to innovation in the smart home space. The Nest Hub Max is a smart display that combines the functionalities of a smart speaker, a security camera, and a digital photo frame. It features a 10-inch HD screen, a built-in Nest Cam, and stereo speakers, making it a versatile addition to any smart home.
The Nest Hub Max also introduces new features such as Face Match, which uses facial recognition technology to provide personalized information to different users. For example, when a family member walks in front of the device, it can display their calendar events, reminders, and other personalized content. This feature underscores Google’s focus on creating a more personalized and helpful home environment.
In addition to the Nest Hub Max, Google has announced updates to existing Nest products. These updates include enhanced security features, improved energy-saving capabilities, and better integration with other Google services. For example, the Nest Thermostat now offers more advanced scheduling options and energy usage insights, helping users to optimize their home’s energy efficiency.
Furthermore, Google is expanding its smart home ecosystem by partnering with other companies to integrate their products with Google Nest. This collaborative approach aims to create a more comprehensive and interconnected smart home experience for users. For instance, Google has partnered with companies like Philips Hue and August Smart Locks to ensure their products work seamlessly with Google Nest devices.
