
We have been testing out the Nest Cam from Nest over the last few weeks, the camera is one of the most popular home security cameras on the market. It is designed to be easy to setup and use.
The Nest Cam comes with some useful features, these including automatic night vision, the ability to stream video 24 hours a day and also get alerts on your smartphone or tablet.
Nest Cam Review – The hardware

The Nest Cam is capable of streaming Full HD video in 1080p, the camera measure just 11.4cm tall and 7.3cm wide, so it can easily be placed around your home without being obtrusive.
It comes with a range of features that include motion alerts, live streaming, sound alerts, night vision, the ability to zoom in and also listen and talk using the built in microphone and speakers.
The device has a 1/3 3megpaixel sensor and features 8x digital zoom, it has a wide field of view which will basically let you monitor a complete room, with a 130 degree field of view. This will give you a full view of most rooms depending on where you place the camera.
Nest Cam Review – How easy is it to setup?

The Nest Cam is very easy to setup, the device is basically plug and play, all you need to do is plug the camera in, download the app for your smartphone or tablet and then scan the QR code on your Nest Cam with your device.
Once this is done the app takes you through the setup process which is very easy, you just add the camera to your Nest account and then connect to WiFi.

It took around 5 minutes to setup the Nest Camera and have it streaming and recording video. The Nest app is easy to use. It can also be used with other Nest devices like the Nest Thermostat and others.
As well as using an app on your smartphone or tablet, you can also view your Nest Cam and other devices from your web browser.
With the device you get a 30 day free trial of the video recording feature, video is recorded to the cloud for you to view back at a later time.
Nest Cam Review – Features
The Nest Cam is designed to give your the ability to monitor parts of your home when you are away and also acts as a security camera to record what is happening around your house. Once the device has been setup it is very easy to use and works very well.

It has a lot of great features, although in order to use these features you will need a subscription To Nest Aware which is available for a monthly fee.
Nest Aware will record your video to the cloud and you can have access to that recorded video from your smartphone or tablet or the web. There is also an alert feature which will show you recorded video when motion has been detected.
Nest Camera Review – Costs
The Nest Cam costs £159 including VAT in the UK, on top of that there are two subscription options available. The first option gives you 10 days of video history and 100GB of cloud storage for a monthly fee of £8, this can also be paid for annually at a lower cost of £80 a year.

The second option will give you 30 days of video history and 300GB of cloud storage for a monthly fee of £24 or £240 annually.
These costs need to be factored in to the equation when thinking about buying the device, as you will want one of these plans to enable all of the features.

Nest Cam Review – Conclusion
The Nest Cam is a great home security camera, it is capable of streaming and recording high quality video.It comes with a great range of features, although in order to use these features you will need a subscription to Nest Aware.
The camera is excellent and produces great quality videos, what you need to consider with this device is whether you are prepared to pay the monthly or annual fee.
