The Nest Cam IQ Indoor launched a few months ago and we have just started to test out the latest Nest security camera.
We previously reviewed the original Nest Cam last year, the new Nest Cam IQ gets a number of upgrades over the previous model.
The new Nest Cam IQ Indoor actually features a 4K 8 megapixel image sensor and it displays recorded video footage in 1080p, it also displays zoomed in video footage in high resolution.
Advanced Features and Functionality
The camera gets a number of new features over the previous model, this includes a new Nest Aware feature that will alert you if it sees a familiar face or if it hears someone talking. This facial recognition technology is particularly useful for distinguishing between family members and potential intruders, adding an extra layer of security. The Nest Aware subscription also offers continuous video recording, intelligent alerts, and the ability to create activity zones to monitor specific areas more closely.
Another significant upgrade is the inclusion of a powerful speaker and three-microphone array, which enhances the two-way audio functionality. This allows for clearer communication with anyone in the room, whether you’re using it to check in on your pets or to warn an intruder that they are being recorded.
Design and Usability
The design of the device has also been updated over the previous Nest Cam Indoor. The Nest Cam IQ Indoor features a sleek, modern design that blends seamlessly into any home decor. Its sturdy base and adjustable stand make it easy to position the camera at the perfect angle. The camera also includes a built-in cable management system to keep cords tidy and out of sight.
In terms of usability, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor is incredibly user-friendly. The setup process is straightforward, requiring just a few steps to connect the camera to your Wi-Fi network and the Nest app. The app itself is intuitive, offering easy access to live video feeds, recorded footage, and settings adjustments. Users can also integrate the camera with other smart home devices, such as Google Home, for added convenience.
Performance and Reliability
We will be testing out the new Nest Cam IQ Indoor over the next few weeks to evaluate its performance and reliability. Initial impressions suggest that the camera offers excellent video quality, even in low-light conditions, thanks to its HDR imaging and infrared LEDs. The camera’s ability to zoom in on specific areas without losing clarity is particularly impressive, making it easier to identify faces and other important details.
The Nest Cam IQ Indoor also boasts robust security features, including 128-bit encryption and two-step verification, to protect your video feeds from unauthorized access. Additionally, the camera’s built-in algorithms can differentiate between different types of motion, reducing the number of false alerts triggered by pets or other non-threatening movements.
Overall, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor appears to be a significant improvement over its predecessor, offering advanced features, enhanced performance, and a sleek design. We look forward to providing a more detailed review after our extended testing period.
