For the green minded (as in your thoughts are eco-conscious), the iFan charger is the ultimate gizmo for keeping your dearly beloved iPhone juiced up.
This wrap-around contraption from Tjeerd Veenhoven is the latest contender for smartest charging gadget. A mere glance at the pic above reveals its function—a PC fan works like a dynamo and charges your iPhone. That’s a double plus on creativity but a double minus when we learned it takes around six hours for a full charge. In such cases, better leave your iPhone standing somewhere windy, like on a tree branch in the middle of a hurricane.
Yet problems persist, for starters the fan is proving woefully inadequate as a wind-driven engine so the charger’s creator is modifying its design. It has gotten us to thinking that maybe a hand-crank might be better, you know, charging your iPhone old-school to juxtapose the 21st century’s tech with 19th century inventiveness? Whatevs.
There’s also the worrying prospect of leaving an iFan clad iPhone in your pocket and the fan getting snagged on fabric or stuff you keep in your, uh, pocket. Yeah, maybe a handcrank is a better idea even if people will give you funny looks when they see you hand-cranking an iPhone
Also, here’s our last slice of beef: Okay, so it looks great. But what happens when there’s no wind?
