If you own a AMD Radeon HD 6950 graphics card or are thinking of purchasing one very soon, you might be pleased to know, if you didn’t already, that the HD 6950 and HD 6970 cards both feature AMD’s new Cayman core and are the first graphics cards to incorporate the VLIW4 shader configuration.
Due to their very similar make-up the BIOS on the HD 6950 can now be modified and the team over at Tech Power Up have been able to create a new BIOS that unlocks its full potential, basically transforming it into a full HD 6970 graphics card.
But before you jump in and start flashing your BIOS, be aware that the retail version of the HD 6970 card uses 8-pin and a 6-pin connectors for its auxiliary power, whereas the HD 6950 only has a pair of 6-pin intakes, which could cause problems if you are continually running your flashed HD 6950 at extreme loads.
However if you fancy giving your card an early upgrade, full instructions of how to flash your HD 6950 upto a HD 6970, visit the Tech Power Up website.
