Asus has announced that it will be equipping its latest Intel Atom-powered netbooks with “Instant On” technology. This innovative feature, currently used in the Asus Zenbook UX31, enables the device to resume from sleep nearly instantaneously, significantly enhancing user convenience and productivity.
Introduction of Instant On Technology
The Asus Instant On technology will be appearing first on the Eee PC 1025C and 1025CE netbooks. This technology will allow these netbooks to resume from sleep in around 3 seconds, a remarkable improvement over traditional boot times. Both models will be available later this month, with the Eee PC 1025C priced at $299 and the Eee PC 1025CE at $319.
When using the Instant On technology, Asus claims that it should provide users with around 21 days of sleep time. This extended sleep duration offers a practical alternative to shutting down the netbook for longer periods, especially when users are concerned about battery drain. This feature is particularly beneficial for students, professionals, and travelers who need their devices to be ready at a moment’s notice without the hassle of long boot times.
Specifications and Features
The Eee PC 1025C model comes equipped with 3 x USB 2.0 ports, while the Eee PC 1025CE features 2 x USB 2.0 ports and 1 x USB 3.0 port. Both models boast a 10.1″ display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, providing clear and vibrant visuals. They are also equipped with 1GB of RAM and a 32GB hard drive, which should be sufficient for basic computing tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback.
In addition to these specifications, both netbooks include VGA webcams, microphones, headphone jacks, VGA and HDMI ports, and SDHC card slots. These features ensure that users have all the necessary connectivity options for various peripherals and external devices. The inclusion of an HDMI port is particularly noteworthy, as it allows users to connect their netbooks to larger displays or projectors, making it easier to share content during presentations or enjoy media on a bigger screen.
As well as the new Instant On technology, Asus has also revealed that other new apps will be making their way to the latest Asus netbooks. These include Smart Camera and Media Sharing, which are designed to enhance the overall user experience. The Smart Camera app is expected to offer advanced features for capturing and editing photos and videos, while the Media Sharing app will likely facilitate easy sharing of media files between devices.
The introduction of Instant On technology in the Eee PC 1025C and 1025CE netbooks marks a significant step forward for Asus in the netbook market. By drastically reducing the time it takes for these devices to resume from sleep, Asus is addressing one of the most common pain points for netbook users. The extended sleep duration and additional apps further enhance the appeal of these models, making them a compelling choice for anyone in need of a portable and efficient computing solution.
With competitive pricing and a robust set of features, the Eee PC 1025C and 1025CE are poised to attract a wide range of users, from students and professionals to casual users looking for a reliable secondary device. As technology continues to evolve, innovations like Instant On will play a crucial role in shaping the future of portable computing.
