XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set to launch tomorrow in the US and on October 12th in Europe and Australia. The game is currently available for pre-order at a price of $50.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Customization
Those who pre-order the new game will also receive a launch bonus that includes the Elite Soldier Pack. This pack provides the ultimate tools for soldier customization in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The Elite Soldier Pack includes a variety of customization options such as unique armor kits, color schemes, and even a classic soldier inspired by the original XCOM game. This allows players to personalize their squad to a greater extent, making each playthrough unique and tailored to their preferences.
“Take command of XCOM headquarters, recruit and train your soldiers, and research alien technology to advance the capabilities of your squad. The battle against the enemy will be tough, and success will depend on your ability to keep your recruits alive and evolve them from rookies to more skilled and powerful soldiers. You are our last hope to save humanity from the global alien invasion. Good luck, Commander.”
Gameplay and Strategic Depth
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a reimagining of the classic 1994 strategy game, UFO: Enemy Unknown. The game combines turn-based tactical combat with strategic resource management, offering a deep and engaging experience. Players must manage their base, research new technologies, and make critical decisions that will affect the outcome of the game. The strategic layer involves managing resources, building facilities, and making decisions about which missions to undertake.
The tactical combat layer is where players will engage in turn-based battles against alien forces. Each mission requires careful planning and execution, as players must position their soldiers, use cover effectively, and make use of a variety of weapons and abilities. The game also features a permadeath system, meaning that if a soldier dies in battle, they are gone for good. This adds an extra layer of tension and importance to each decision made during combat.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown also includes a multiplayer mode, allowing players to compete against each other in tactical battles. This mode offers a different challenge, as players must adapt their strategies to counter human opponents rather than AI-controlled aliens.
The game has received praise for its challenging gameplay, deep strategic elements, and high replayability. With its combination of base management, research, and tactical combat, XCOM: Enemy Unknown offers a comprehensive and immersive experience for fans of strategy games.
