Microsoft launched its next generation game console called the Xbox One less than a month ago. Microsoft doesn’t often give up sales statistics for individual areas, but the company did say that it sold over a million units the first day the console launched around the world. Research firm NPD has offered up some stats for the Xbox One in its first 72 hours for Australia.
According to the numbers NPD is offering, the Xbox One is now by far the fastest selling game console in Australia. The previous record holder was the Nintendo Wii with a record that has stood since 2006. The Xbox One sold about twice the number in its first three days as the Wii did back in 2006.
The exact number of consoles sold in Australia according to NPD is 65917. The Xbox One launched in Australia and 12 other countries on November 22. The console is still in high demand and Microsoft is having a hard time meeting that demand making the console very hard to find. Retailers have called the demand for the Xbox one unprecedented. Sony is also sold out of its PS4 console in many areas and most accounts have Microsoft selling more consoles than Sony so far. The Xbox One outsold the Xbox 360 by a wide margin in the UK when comparing launches for both systems.
