We are expecting three versions of the iPhone 8 this year, a 4.7 inch model and 5.5 inch model with LCD displays and a 5.8 inch model with an OLED display.
The 5.8 inch version of the iPhone 8 is rumored to be called the iPhone Edition to celebrate 10 years of Apple’s iPhone.
Design and Build
The new iPhone 8 smartphones will get a completely new design over the existing handsets and they are said to be made from a stainless steel chassis and also come with a glass back. This new design is expected to offer a more premium feel and improved durability compared to previous models. The use of a glass back also suggests that Apple may be incorporating wireless charging capabilities, a feature that has been highly anticipated by many users.
Designers Thiago M Duarte and Ran Avni have created some concept designs of what the new iPhone Edition may look like and you can see the designs in the video below.
Display and Features
The 5.8 inch model with the OLED display is expected to offer a bezel-less design, providing users with a larger screen area without increasing the overall size of the phone. OLED displays are known for their superior color accuracy, deeper blacks, and better energy efficiency compared to LCD displays. This would mark a significant upgrade in display technology for Apple, aligning with the trend of other flagship smartphones in the market.
In addition to the new display technology, the iPhone Edition is rumored to include an in-screen Touch ID fingerprint sensor. This would allow for a more seamless design by eliminating the need for a physical home button. There are also speculations about advanced facial recognition technology being integrated into the front camera, enhancing security and user convenience.
We are looking forward to finding out more details about this year’s iPhones. The handsets are expected to go on sale sometime in September. This release timeline is consistent with Apple’s traditional launch schedule, which typically sees new iPhone models announced in early September and available for purchase later that month.
Software and Ecosystem
As well as the new iPhones, Apple will also be releasing a new version of their mobile OS, iOS 11. This new operating system is expected to bring a host of new features and improvements, including a redesigned Control Center, enhanced Siri capabilities, and augmented reality (AR) support through ARKit. iOS 11 will be made official at WWDC 2017 and will launch in September with the new handsets.
The integration of ARKit in iOS 11 is particularly exciting, as it will enable developers to create immersive AR experiences for the iPhone. This could range from gaming and entertainment applications to practical tools for education and productivity. The combination of powerful hardware in the new iPhones and the advanced software capabilities of iOS 11 could position Apple as a leader in the emerging AR market.
The upcoming iPhone 8 models, especially the iPhone Edition, are shaping up to be some of the most exciting releases in recent years. With a completely new design, advanced display technology, and innovative features, these new iPhones are expected to set a new standard for smartphones. We will continue to keep an eye out for more information as the release date approaches.
