Apple has released their first beta of iOS 13 and their new iPadOS, and now we have a video which gives us a look at this new iPad-specific version of iOS.
Apple’s new iPadOS comes with a range of new features that Apple has designed to work exclusively with the iPad. It also includes the new features that are launching in iOS 13. The video below gives us a detailed look at these new features.
As we can see from the video, there are some great new features coming to the iPad in this new iPadOS software.
Enhanced Apple Pencil Capabilities
One of the standout features in iPadOS is the enhanced capabilities for the Apple Pencil. Apple has reduced the latency of the Apple Pencil from 20ms to 9ms, making it more responsive and natural to use. This improvement is particularly beneficial for artists and designers who rely on the precision of the Apple Pencil for their work. Additionally, new tools and gestures have been introduced, allowing users to mark up entire documents, web pages, and emails more efficiently.
Dark Mode and Custom Fonts
Another significant addition is the introduction of Dark Mode, which provides a sleek, dark color scheme that is easier on the eyes, especially in low-light environments. This feature is not only aesthetically pleasing but also helps in reducing eye strain. Users can toggle Dark Mode on and off from the Control Center or set it to activate automatically based on the time of day.
Custom Fonts are also making their debut in iPadOS. Users can now install and manage custom fonts, which can be used across various apps like Mail, Pages, and Keynote. This feature is particularly useful for designers and content creators who require specific fonts for their projects.
Revamped Photos App and Multitasking Enhancements
The Photos app has received a significant overhaul in iPadOS. It now features a new Photos tab that curates your photo library, highlighting the best shots and hiding clutter like duplicates and screenshots. The app also offers powerful new editing tools that allow users to fine-tune their photos with more precision.
Multitasking has been taken to the next level with iPadOS. The new Slide Over and Split View features allow users to work with multiple apps simultaneously. For instance, you can now have multiple windows from the same app open, making it easier to switch between tasks. The new App Exposé feature provides a quick view of all open windows for a particular app, enhancing productivity.
Improved Safari and File Management
Safari on iPadOS has been upgraded to offer a desktop-class browsing experience. Websites are now displayed in their desktop versions, optimized for touch input. This change makes web browsing more efficient and eliminates the need to switch to a desktop computer for certain tasks. Safari also includes a download manager, 30 new keyboard shortcuts, and improved tab management.
File management has also seen significant improvements. The Files app now supports external drives, allowing users to connect USB drives, SD cards, and even SMB file servers. This feature is a game-changer for professionals who need to transfer large files quickly and efficiently.
We are expecting this new iPad-specific version of Apple’s iOS to land sometime in September with iOS 13 and the new iPhones. You can see a full list of iPads that will support the new iPadOS here.
