During the CEATEC show in Japan Toshiba has been showcasing their new Toshiba Glass eyewear which the company is designing to compete with the likes of the Google Glass, the digital eyewear Google launched a few years ago.
Toshiba Glass is expected to launch their new eyewear sometime next year and Toshiba’s is a little more simplified when compared to Google’s eyewear. With Toshiba designing their Glass device to be more of an external display than a stand alone computer or smartphone.
Toshiba’s Glass eyewear also differs from Google’s creation in that it needs to be connected to your smartphone via a cable for it to work and does not include a battery or any wireless connectivity. Toshiba has designed their new eyewear to project the content directly onto the lens of the glasses rather than using a separate prism.
Using the permanently attached cable Toshiba might be developing the new eyewear for more industrial purposes rather then the consumer, but only time will tell.
Unfortunately no information or detailed specifications have been released as yet by Toshiba, and there is no indication on the price or worldwide release dates that Toshiba might be considering. But as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
