Fox has this week confirmed that the already announced and highly anticipated return of the X-Files and FBI agents will take place early next year on January 24th, 2016.
The six-episode X-Files return will start with back-to-back episodes on the 24th and 25th of January following the NFL’s NFC Championship Game.
The Return of a Cult Classic
The X-Files, which originally aired from 1993 to 2002, has been a cornerstone of science fiction television, captivating audiences with its blend of paranormal investigation, conspiracy theories, and character-driven drama. The show’s return has been eagerly awaited by fans who have longed to see more of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said creator/executive producer Chris Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.”
What to Expect from the New Episodes
The new episodes promise to delve deeper into the complex mythology of the series while also introducing new standalone cases that will challenge Mulder and Scully in unexpected ways. Fans can expect a mix of the eerie and the enigmatic, with the show’s signature blend of suspense, horror, and speculative fiction.
One of the most exciting aspects of the return is the opportunity to see how the characters have evolved over the years. Mulder and Scully have always been more than just partners; their relationship has been a central element of the show’s appeal. The new episodes will explore how their experiences have shaped them and how they continue to navigate the murky waters of government conspiracies and paranormal phenomena.
Additionally, the return of The X-Files comes at a time when the world is more connected and information is more accessible than ever before. This modern context provides a fertile ground for new stories that reflect contemporary issues and anxieties. From the rise of digital surveillance to the spread of misinformation, the new episodes are likely to resonate with today’s audience in profound ways.
The show’s return also brings back some of the original creative team, ensuring that the new episodes will retain the essence of what made The X-Files a cultural touchstone. Alongside Chris Carter, several writers and directors from the original series are involved, promising a seamless continuation of the story.
The return of The X-Files is not just a revival of a beloved series but a timely exploration of themes that are more relevant than ever. With its compelling characters, intricate plots, and thought-provoking questions, the new episodes are set to captivate both long-time fans and new viewers alike.
