Tesoro has this week announced the imminent launch of their new Tesoro Gram MX One keyboard which will be available to purchase just a few days time from December 24th, 2018 onwards. Unfortunately, the company has not revealed any pricing for the new illuminated keyboard which can be equipped with a choice of genuine Cherry MX Blue or Brown mechanical switches, both in their non-RGB variant.
Design and Build Quality
The Gram MX One gaming keyboard has single color blue backlighting and offers a minimalist design with emphasis on durability and build quality rather than features and millions of colors. The keyboard features doubleshot injected PBT keycaps that adopt the floating style design on a thick steel plate as seen below. This design choice not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the keyboard but also contributes to its robustness and longevity. The use of PBT keycaps is particularly noteworthy as they are known for their resistance to wear and shine, ensuring that the keyboard maintains its pristine look even after prolonged use.
Functionality and Features
As well as providing users with pre-programmed onboard functionality to control lighting effects, key assignment, and macro recording, the Tesoro Gram MX One keyboard measures 445 x 139 x 32 mm and weighs 1.2 Kg. This makes it a substantial piece of equipment that is likely to stay firmly in place during intense gaming sessions. The inclusion of Cherry MX Blue and Brown switches caters to different user preferences; Cherry MX Blue switches are known for their tactile feedback and audible click, making them ideal for typists, while Cherry MX Brown switches offer a quieter, tactile bump, making them a versatile choice for both typing and gaming.
The keyboard’s single-color blue backlighting is a departure from the current trend of RGB lighting, but it aligns with the minimalist design philosophy that Tesoro seems to be embracing with this model. The blue backlighting is not just for aesthetics; it also enhances visibility in low-light conditions, making it easier for users to locate keys during late-night gaming sessions.
Additional Details and User Experience
The Tesoro Gram MX One also comes with a set of pre-programmed onboard functionalities that allow users to customize their experience without the need for additional software. This includes the ability to control lighting effects, reassign keys, and record macros directly from the keyboard. This feature is particularly useful for gamers who need to make quick adjustments on the fly without interrupting their gameplay.
Moreover, the keyboard’s floating key design on a thick steel plate not only adds to its durability but also makes cleaning easier. Dust and debris are less likely to get trapped under the keys, and any that does can be easily removed. This is a significant advantage for users who want to maintain their keyboard in top condition with minimal effort.
In terms of connectivity, the Tesoro Gram MX One uses a standard USB connection, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. The cable is braided for added durability, reducing the risk of wear and tear over time.
Overall, the Tesoro Gram MX One keyboard appears to be a well-rounded product that prioritizes build quality and essential features over flashy extras. While the lack of RGB lighting might be a drawback for some, the keyboard’s robust construction, high-quality keycaps, and versatile switch options make it a compelling choice for both gamers and typists alike.
