Synology has this month unveiled a new 4-bay NAS storage and backup solution that is priced at an affordable $310 and takes the form of the Synology DiskStation DS416j.
The DS416j DiskStation features dual-core CPU, delivering high performance exceeding 112 MB/sec reading and 101 MB/sec writing says Synology and is DLNA Certified.
Allowing the hardware to support Apple TV, Chromecast, and MiBox enabling owners to stream photos, music, and videos and other media stored within DS416j NAS system to computers, entertainment systems, mobile devices and more. The system uses just 21.6 watts of power when in full operation and as little as 12.75 watts in HDD hibernation. Synology explains more :

Equipped with a dual-core CPU, DS416j delivers average reading speed over 112.82 MB/sec and writing over 101.2 MB/sec under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment, a 37.33% increase on writing speed compared to its predecessor.1 In addition, with the encryption engine, DS416j runs at an increased performance level when compared to a pure software encryption implementation.
DS416j comes with a USB 3.0 port to connect to various kinds of external storage devices, while ensuring fast and efficient file transfer speeds. Support for USB 3.0 offers transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps (about 10 times faster than USB 2.0), meaning it takes less time to transfer data to external hard drives, while also consuming less power.
